Kapital runs 13 stores in Japan and sells through a short list of international boutiques (Standard & Strange, Haven, Blue in Green, Canoe Club) plus Mr Porter; its own kapital.jp site is Japan-focused with limited/no straightforward US-facing checkout. Most pieces move in small runs, sell out fast, and the "Kountry" sub-line is deliberately limited — so a lot of buying happens on Grailed, eBay and Poshmark at or above retail.

Century Denim (Monkey Cisco)

Jeans
$610

About Kapital’s jeans: People want Kapital for genuinely hand-done Japanese craft — sashiko stitching, boro patchwork, indigo dyeing out of Kojima — plus the cult skeleton/smiley graphics that don't look like anyone else's. It's collector denim you can actually wear, not logo flexing.

Kapital isn't sold through us. Here's an honest take on what you're really paying for, and cheaper pieces you can actually buy below.

Is the price honest?

You're paying for small-batch Japanese selvedge and hand labor, and a chunk of that cost is legitimate. But a plain Century pair and an embroidered Cisco can differ by hundreds for the same base fabric — the embroidery and the Kountry name carry the premium. If you want the fabric and fade without the artwork tax, other Japanese selvedge gets you 80% of the way for a third of the price.

Our take

Kapital's Century Denim is the brand's signature jean: heavyweight Japanese selvedge woven and finished in Kojima, often with sashiko hand-stitch details and hand-embroidered motifs (the Monkey/Cisco line). The make is real — the fabric fades hard and the stitching is genuinely done by hand, which is where the money goes. It's a jean bought by people who care about denim as a craft object, not a quick pickup.

The details

Material
Heavyweight Japanese selvedge cotton, indigo-dyed, with sashiko stitching and hand embroidery on the Cisco cuts.
Fit
Runs roomy and tapered depending on cut; Kapital sizing is inconsistent across models, so check measurements rather than tagged size.
Quality
Genuinely high — Kojima selvedge, hand stitching, built to fade. This is the real thing, not a marketing story.
Best for
Denim heads who want hand-finished Japanese selvedge and are fine paying for the craft.
Care
Wash rarely and cold, hang dry; let raw/selvedge indigo fade naturally before the first wash.
